Function

Algorithmics, machine learning and deep learning have become essential tools for data collection and processing, particularly from images or movies. In the context of varietal improvement, these technologies provide access to quantitative and objective information of the varieties evaluated during the breeding process: agronomic, phenological traits, yield-related traits, or traits related to biotic or abiotic stress.

The position of Digital Phenotyping Project Manager is attached to the “Breeding Technologies” domain within the LVS organization. Your main mission will be to manage a team of experts in these fields as well as various projects enabling the deployment of digital phenotyping in the breeding programs of Limagrain’s vegetable branch. Your team will develop innovative methodologies and tools for image and video analysis, deploy these tools into the breeding teams of Limagrain Group’s Vegetables Business Line, train users, and support these tools over time to support the competitiveness of R&D products for the three LVS Business Units worldwide.

 

Missions:

  • Lead and manage a team of scientists (6 collaborators) in the field of digital phenotyping, ensuring the professional development of individuals and teams while maximizing collaboration, productivity, and efficiency across domains.
  • Foster team spirit to develop a collaborative and innovative work environment within the service and promote adherence to the new T&T (Trait and Technology) identity.
  • Build the strategic R&D roadmap for LVS in this field and more broadly in the field of data-driven breeding program and establish guidelines to be followed by experts.
  • Collaborate closely with breeders to understand the objectives and challenges. Adapt digital phenotyping strategies to meet these objectives. Contribute to the integration of digital phenotyping into the breeding process.
  • Develop and implement performance indicators (KPIs) in the field of digital phenotyping to effectively measure progress.
  • Report to managers and ensure transparency with the global T&T Management.
  • Identify and build strategic public and private partnerships to foster innovation.

What we expect of you

  • You are an expert in the field of digital phenotyping, and you will use your expertise to become a leader in strategy development and implementation.
  • You have a PhD degree in genetics, biostatistics, applied mathematics, phenotyping or a related field agriculture.
  • You have at least 5 years of experience in similar position in an international company.
  • You have real managerial skills, are client-oriented, and have a strong appetite for innovation.
  • You have a sensitivity to IT project management.
  • You have a synthetic mind, the ability to decide and enforce decisions in a complex and constantly changing environment.
  • Knowledge of analytics methodologies and artificial intelligence technologies would be desirable.
  • Fluent English is mandatory and used daily.

 

Position based ideally in France, La Ménitré ( Angers region,  France) or in Chappes (Auvergne, France). Other location to be discussed. Position to be filled as soon as possible.
