Function

Winter Oilseed Rape Breeding Assistant

Main Goal

As a Plant Breeding Assistant (m/f/d) at Limagrain you support the development of oilseed rape varieties with stable yields, robust genetics and reliable performance across varying conditions. The position offers a varied working environment, combining hands-on fieldwork with data processing and analysis, as well as collaboration within an international team.

Job description

To cover a parental leave, we are looking for a dedicated Plant Breeding Assistant to actively support our team.

Your main responsibilities and activities

  • Contribute to all operational breeding activities in the nurseries (trial setup, field work, data collection)
  • Prepare, drill, monitor and harvest breeding nurseries
  • Carry out crossing, selfing and harvesting activities
  • Perform phenotyping and data collection (time of flowering, plant height, lodging tendency, diseases)
  • Maintain field books
  • Manage and analyze breeding data using our company's proprietary software (BOS)
  • Guide and schedule seasonal workers
  • Coordinate and manage breeding nurseries
  • Organize leaf sampling for molecular marker analysis and evaluate results
  • Collaborate with European breeding teams

What we expect of you

  • Completed agricultural-technical training (e.g., ATA, LTA) or comparable practical qualification in crop production
  • Basic knowledge of plant breeding in theory and practice
  • Fluent German and good command of English
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Reliable, independent way of working, team spirit, flexibility and initiative
  • Willingness to work overtime during seasonal peak periods (sowing, flowering, harvest)
