Job description

You will be a great fit if you have experience similar to: 

Crop Management:


· Oversees the Development of crop specific fertilizer and irrigation protocols in consultation with the Operations Manager that maximize the potential of the breeding programs.

· Develop a program to monitor crop nutrition through soil and tissue collection and analysis.

· Daily scouting for insect and disease pests and report results to station manager

· Participates in regular site safety initiative and training.

· Oversee the supervision and training of other greenhouse team members.

· Work alone and with others to ensure that crop protocols and crop management procedures are followed.

· Develop pest management program in consultation with Operations Manager and apply labeled pesticides and beneficial insects to control pests and diseases.

· Measure and monitor key performance metrics related to both the quality and productivity of crop programs.

· Perform routine irrigation, greenhouse and facility maintenance and repairs.

· General operational support for breeding and plant pathology projects and programs

· Develops the greenhouse preparation process each growing cycle that maintains proper crop rotation.

· Create a safe working environment in the greenhouse – by encouraging workers to wear the appropriate PPE, use proper lifting technique, and follow direction on posted signs etc.

· Supervise the scouting of greenhouses for insect and disease pest.

· Regularly check soil and media pH and EC

· Collect and ship plant tissue and media sample for nutrients analysis at external lab.

· Preforms greenhouse cleanup and disposal of plants, containers, media, etc. after project completion.

· Prepares production greenhouse for planting each season:

oCleaning and sanitizing

oIrrigation setup

oPot placement

 

 


Planning and Strategy:


· Conduct weekly crop walks with Station Stakeholders to review crop progress and develop plans to address any variances or opportunities.

· Conduct periodic crop reviews with members of the operations, breeding, and research teams to assess success of programs.

· Forecast weekly labor needs and work with others to achieve desired outcomes in an efficient and productive manner.

· Assist Operations Manager in the design, specification, bidding and construction of greenhouse and facility improvements.

· Development of greenhouse layout and planting plans to guarantee crop cycles and timelines are followed.


Station and Organizational Development and Improvement:


· Promote a culture of continuous improvement and growth for the company.

· Participate in safety meetings provided by the local safety coordinator – LSC, HR and Operations team.

· Participate in weekly staff meetings to share progress and discuss opportunities for improvement.

· Work with others to provide training and development opportunities for all staff members.

· Participate in periodic seminars and educational opportunities to ensure that protocols and crop recipes are up to date.

· Development and maintenance of accurate records of all greenhouse activities.

· Oversee the supervision and administrative activities for up to 10 contract laborers as needed.

· Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

What we expect of you

To be considered, you will need:

· Bachelor’s degree with at least two year’s field/greenhouse operations experience in a research or production setting, or a combination of both.

· Associate of Science’s degree in Agriculture or related field with 3-5 years’ experience

· Knowledge of routine greenhouse growing practices and irrigation requirements.

· Must be able to work as a team member and independently as this position will require some weekend work.

· Florida pesticide application license or the ability to get one within 1 year of being employed

· Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize own work and work of others in the team.

· Strong communication, training, and supervisory skills.

· Demonstrated computer skills in Word, Excel, Email programs.

· Valid Driver’s License required.

· English fluency required; Spanish is desired.
