Job description

You will be a great fit if you have experience similar to:

•    Lead a team of seasonal and/or contract workers for completion of operational and breeding activities related to a breeding program.  Tasks including sowing, transplanting, harvesting, seed extraction, seed disinfection, seed packaging, and molecular marker tissue sampling, greenhouse plant care, and pollinations, while also performing these tasks and/or training others to perform them, as needed
•    Assist the breeders and research assistant/associate in any activities as needed
•    Assist the breeding program in Labor coordination, Field logistics, Field maintenance, trial evaluation, and Harvest, for on-station and off-station trials
•    Data collection and data entry into breeder or research databases/spreadsheets
•    Processing seed requests: seed inventory efforts, seed packaging, shipping, and record keeping
•    Ensuring the accuracy of field and greenhouse plot/plant labelling
•    Ensuring the compliance with phytosanitary and safety procedures in place at the work site 
•    May work in the field, greenhouse, lab, office and other work environments required by the position
•    Other duties as assigned
•    Support the off-station activities including but not limited to Sowing, Sampling, Transplanting, Harvesting and Evaluating across Sweet Pepper and additional crops under trial (including large seed) (Up to 30% of the time)

Required knowledge & Skills
•    Pro-active and detail-oriented team player with strong organizational and communication skills
•    Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
•    Strong problem-solving skills
•    Ability to clearly report issues that may occur while performing tasks and propose/discuss solutions to avoid or minimize the future occurrence of the same issues
•    Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office and email
•    Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions for long periods
•    Must be able to travel occasionally throughout the season for consecutive days, including overnight stay
•    Must be able to lift 50 pounds
•    Valid driver’s license required
•    Spanish speaking and English speaking required

While performing the duties of this job the employee will be driving vehicles. This position will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.  The employee may need to walk on uneven ground, work near equipment or machinery.  The noise level that is typical of this work environment is moderate.
