POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

This position involves owning production research project portfolio with defining, leading and executing projects and trial plans. The primary goals are to improve and address production challenges and to innovate methods, techniques, and strategies that improve agronomy, seed production, and the yield and quality of crops. This position serves as a pivotal role in research for a group of crops. This position will provide the company with optimal seed production methods, protocols, and processes. Addressing identified gaps, this position proposes, develops, and manages seed production research projects, providing regular updates on progress, challenges, and achievements. Ultimately, the role contributes to implementing and monitoring project deliverables, effecting tangible changes or actions in collaboration with stakeholders.

Job description

You will be a great fit if you have experience similar to: 

· Leads and coordinate production research projects portfolio for one group of crops (solanum, cucurbit, BulbLeafyRootBulb (BLRB), or large seeds)

· Manages and develops essential information and characterization for inbred/parental lines to support seed production needs

· Locally and regionally supports other production research project lead(s)

· May be assigned to cross-functional prod research items to develop standardized methods for innovative method or producibility

· Chair crop technical committee to gather and identifies seed production gaps and proposes solutions to governance body

· Defines project deliverables by encompassing innovation, improvement and producibility

· Defines, leads, and set ups production research project with relevant project teams, methods and protocols; direct implementation steps to apply finings in seed production

· Supports Supply Chain team in New Product Introductions (NPIs), by providing and maintaining critical manufacturing information

· Coordinates and oversees trial networks, assessing agronomic data and documenting phenotypic observations

· Manages seed preparation, planting logistics, and data collection administration

· Monitors trial growth, assists in cultural care, directs field crews, and maintains trial plots.

· Processes post-harvest samples, manages data entry and analyzes trial results for reporting

· Conducts background research, literature reviews, and methodological development to support project goals

· Conducts upstream and background work on methodologies and protocols; performs bibliographic reviews

· Contributes to the development of innovative methods at HMC and collaborates with LVS stakeholders, potentially leads LVS projects

What we expect of you

To be considered, you will need:

· Master’s Degree preferred in agronomy, agriculture or biological science with specialization in cropping system and seed production

· Good level of English spoken and written; Spanish/French would be plus

· Preferred 2 to 3 years’ experience in vegetable seed industry

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

May manage temporary, contract, or regular full-time agronomist and workers.

 

Required knowledge & Skills

Technical Skills – Experience in agronomy, croping system, plant physiology and seed production. Understanding plant breeding principle and plant pathology. Ability to define method and implement. Experience with collecting and analysing experimental data; Agronomic statistics and experimental design. Ability to use operational IT system, Microsoft products such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint; ability to conduct statistical analyse with different tools

Personal initiative, innovative thinking, and the ability to work in a team environment are essential for the successful candidate.

Strategic Planning and Analysis – Ability to manage multiple tasks, with the end result in mind. Have a good capacity for analysis and attention to detail with the ability to detect subtle differences in the plants. Ability to design a robust trials design with multiple and complex information sources. Ability to bring new ideas to the table and make proposals.

Interpersonal Skills – Possess good communication skills. Ability to develop and maintain productive work relationships with various positions within the organization. Ability to interact with internal partners such as the home Farm Operations Team, Production Crop Leads, Production Operations Team, Production Technical Committee, the QC, Seed Technology and R&D labs, the Seed Supply Manager, Marketing and other internal teams. Ability to interact with external partners such as university, vendors, farmers, LVS expert group.

HM.CLAUSE offers a strong compensation and benefits package to its employees:

o    This position’s range is $95,00 - $120,000
Our total compensation and pay ranges reflect our market pay structures.  As such, individual salaries or hourly rates are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: local geographical market conditions, internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as job related skills, education, and experience.
