Job description

You will be a great fit if you have experience similar to: 

Greenhouse and Facility Management
•    Hand watering of transplants and management of irrigation systems
•    Greenhouse cycle preparation, including filling pots and/or flats and organizing as needed.
•    Cleanup and disposal of plants, containers, media, etc. after cycle completion
•    Apply routine pesticides and fertilizers.
•    Conduct routine maintenance of greenhouses and associated facilities/equipment.
•    Actively support the station’s sanitation programs, including disinfection of greenhouses
Breeding and Research Support
•    Scouting for pests and diseases across various crops in the greenhouse
•    Maintain ideal environments for plant growth in collaboration with Breeding and Research teams.
Station Operations
•    Help set up equipment and tools associated with key station activities
•    Work alongside contract laborers conducting routine operational and breeding activities
•    Overseeing and training other workers involved in greenhouse activities
•    Assist in enforcement of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in greenhouses
•    Actively support the station’s Illness and Injury Prevention Plan
•    Attend periodic safety trainings and staff meetings
•    Support general site, lab, office, or greenhouse activities as needed
Note: This position requires work on weekends and holidays.

•    Knowledge of routine greenhouse growing practices and requirements
•    Must be able to perform job responsibilities and testing activities accurately and efficiently
•    Excellent time management skills, and the ability to prioritize own work and work of others on the team
•    Must be able to work as a team member as well as independently
•    Commitment to safety and adherence to safety policies at all times
•    Ability to train, motivate, and supervise others
•    Strong verbal and written communication skills
•    Adaptability: Ability to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events
•    Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
•    Ability and willingness to work in adverse weather conditions in greenhouses and outdoors
•    Attendance/Punctuality: Ensures work responsibilities are covered and regularly plans in advance
•    Dependability: Ability to work in an independent and self-directed manner
•    Computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook are a plus
•    Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
•    Driver’s license required. Forklift experience is a plus
•    Pesticide Applicator Certification is a plus. Initial training and/or re-certification is provided.

    • This position’s range is $20 - $24/hr
