Position Purpose
At HM. CLAUSE, we are looking for a Breeding Associate to support the breeding team at our subsidiary based in Almería, Spain.
You will join an inspiring, dynamic, and multicultural team, reporting directly to the breeder responsible.
Mission
Assist and collaborate with the breeder in defining strategies and objectives to optimize the breeding program.
Main Responsabilities
- Design and implement a technical and practical roadmap for all operational tasks: planning and experimental design of trials (varieties and lines), crossing blocks, and evaluation of varieties and breeding lines.
 - Organize and manage phenotypic and genotypic data collection. Independently evaluate, analyze, interpret, and report results in alignment with the breeding plan. Maintain and update the database and manage the operational IT system.
 - Coordinate and communicate breeding program activities to the breeding assistant, ensuring tasks are completed on time, within scope and budget.
 - Support marker-assisted selection, pathology, and field evaluations when needed.
 - Oversee the movement of seeds and plant tissue, ensuring excellence in all seed-related operations (extraction, traceability, labeling, storage, sanitary testing, etc.), in collaboration with the breeding assistant.
 - Manage the inventory of parental lines and selection material.
 
What we expect from you
Education & Skills:
- Diploma, or equivalent + Master's Degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, or Agricultural Engineering.
 - Strong computer skills: Advanced user of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and experience with database systems.
 - Ability to autonomously analyze and synthesize program data.
 - Passion for plant breeding. Detail-oriented with the ability to detect subtle differences between plants.
 - Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to interact professionally with internal departments (labs, operations, marketing, development) and external stakeholders (growers, distributors).
 - Team player with a positive attitude and willingness to share resources and workspace.
Professional Experience:
- Ideally 1–2 years of experience in a seed company.
 
Languages:
- Fluent in English
 - Native Spanish
 - French is a plus
 
 - This role involves travel to national trial locations as part of regular responsibilities. Occasional international travel may also be required depending on project needs.
